Ans. In Ramlal's family there were seven children three sons and four daughters.( रामलाल के परिवार में सात बच्चे थे-तीन बेटे और चार बेटियाँ थी।)

Ans. When she was two years old, Bholi had an attack of smallpox and when she was ten months old, she fell from cot and injured some part of her brain and became a backward child. (जब वह दो साल की थी तो भोली को चेचक हो गई। जब वह दस माह की थी तो बिस्तर से गिरने के कारण उसके सिर पर चोट लग गई और वह बुद्ध कहलाने लगी।)

Ans. Bholi had never been taken out anywhere she got afraid when she was made ready to go to school.(भोली को कभी बाहर नहीं ले जाया गया था। इसलिए जब उसे स्कूल के लिए तैयार किया गया तो वह डर रही थी।)

Ans. The bridegroom came with a big party of friends and relatives. Secondly a brass band was also playing. This shows that it was a grand wedding. (दुल्हा अपने रिश्तेदारों व मित्रों के साथ आया था और पीतल वाला बैंड भी बज रहा था। दर्शाता है कि वह एक शानदार शादी थी।)

But refused to marry a greedy man.(भोली ने अपने पिता को बताया कि वह बुढ़ापे में उनकी देखभाल करेगी। लेकिन उसने उस लालची आदमी से विवाह करने से मना कर दिया।)

Ans. In the beginning she was very afraid but after some time later when her teacher spoke to her kindly she liked it.(शुरु में उसे बड़ा डर लगा लेकिन बाद में जब उसकी अध्यापिका ने उससे प्यार से बात की तो उसे अच्छा लगा।)

Ans. The village became a small town. Primary school became a high school. There were now a cinema hall under a tin shed. The mail train began to stop at the railway station.(गाँव एक छोटा कस्बा बन गया। प्राइमरी स्कूल हाईस्कूल में बदल गया। टिन शेड के नीचे सिनेमा घर बना और रेलगाड़ी स्टेशन पर रुकने लगी।)

Ans. Sulekha had sustained head injury. She was a slow learner child. No one used to talk to her, As a result, she started stammering. (सुलेखा के सिर पर चोट लग गई । वह मंद बुद्धि बालिका थी। कोई उससे बात नहीं करता था|परिणामस्वरूप उसने हकलाना चालू कर दिया)

Q. 1. Who was Bishamber ? Why did Bholi's parents accept his marriage proposal ? (विशंभर कौन था ? भोली के माता-पिता ने उसकी शादी का प्रस्ताव स्वीकार क्यों किया?) 

Ans. Bishambar was a well to do grocer from the neighbouring village. He was a widower and was of 45 years of age. He had grown up children from his first wife. Moreover he used to limp also. He was a greedy man. Bholi's parents knew that she was ugly and stammered a lot. So no one would marry her. That's why they accepted his proposal. (बिशम्बर पास के गाँव का एक अमीर पंसारी था। वह पैंतालीस साल का विधुर था। उसकी पहली पत्नी से बड़े बच्चे थे। वह लंगड़ाता भी था। वह एक लालची आदमी था। भोली के माता-पिता जानते थे कि भोली कुरूप है और हकलाती है। इसलिए उससे कोई भी विवाह नहीं करेगा। इसलिए उन्होंने उसका प्रस्ताव स्वीकार किया।) 

Q. 2. Give a character sketch of Bholi. (भोली का चरित्र-चित्रण विस्तार से कीजिए।)

Ans. Bholi's real name was Sulekha. When she was ten months old, she fell down from cot and sustained head injury. She became a slow learner. At the age of two years, she got smallpox and became ugly. None liked her in the family. But when she was taken to school, a change came. When she was grown up girl, she refused to marry Bishambar because of his greed. She decided to take up the responsibility of her parents in their old age. Thus Sulekha set an example.(भोली का असली नाम सुलेखा था। जब वह दस माह की थी तो खाट (चारपाई) से नीचे गिर पड़ी और उसके सिर पर चोट लग गई। वह मंद बुद्धि बालिका बन गई। दो साल की उम्र में उसे चेचक हो गया और वह कुरूप हो गई। उसे परिवार में कोई पसंद नहीं करता था। लेकिन जब उसे स्कूल ले जाया गया तो उसमें परिवर्तन आया। जब वह जवान (युवती) हुई तो बिशम्बर से शादी करने से इसलिए मना किया क्योंकि वह लालची था। उसने अपने माता-पिता की जिम्मेदारी उठाने का फैसला किया। इस तरह सुलेखा ने एक उदाहरण प्रस्तुत किया।)

Ans. She was a kind hearted lady and she understood her problems very well. She spoke to her very kindly and lovingly on her first day. She infused confidence in her. It was because of her she left her stammering habit and became self confident in the end of the story.( वह एक दयालु स्त्री थी और उसकी परेशानियों को समझती थी। पहले दिन ही वह भोली के साथ बड़े प्यार से पेश आई। उसने भोली में विश्वास जगाया। अपनी अध्यापिका की वजह से ही उसने हकलाने की आदत छोड़ी। और कहानी के अंत में एक आत्मनिर्भर महिला बनी।) 

Q. 4. Draw a pen-portrait of Ramlal in detail. (रामलाल के विषय में विस्तार से वर्णन कीजिए।) 

Ans. Ramlal was Bholi's father. He was the Numberdar of his village. He was always worried about Bholi. He took her to village school. It was because of Ramlal that Bholi got educated. He had to accept Bishambar's offer. In the end Bholi's decision surprised everyone and he felt pride of her daughter. (रामलाल भोली का पिता था। वह गांव का नम्बरदार था। वह भोली को चाहता था पर मजबूर था। उसे हमेशा भोली की चिंता रहती थी। वह उसे गांव के स्कूल में ले गया। रामलाल की वजह से ही भोली शिक्षित हुई। उसको बिशम्बर का प्रस्ताव स्वीकार करना पड़ा। अंत में भोली के निर्णय ने सबको हैरान कर दिया और उसे अपनी बेटी पर गर्व हुआ।)
